New scarves from the Echo 100 Limited Edition series, released for their 100th Anniversary!
These scarves – even if they don’t suit my very personal tastes – never disappoint. Such a wide range of ideas, styles and points of view. They’re a delight…
Let’s start with a scarf that I managed to overlook – amazing, since it’s black and white, and I love it!
Even though I’m showing this scarf with a black and white outfit (my style to the millionth degree!), consider the possibility that this scarf could be treated in the same way as a necklace in onyx, set in silver, platinum or white gold.
Imagine wearing it with a red dress.
Or a bright blue shirt and black pants.
You get the idea…
This is the kind of outfit that I would pull out on one of those “false summer” days that we often get in April…
and if you’re in the market for linen pants, THIS is the time to get them – they’re pretty thick on the ground!
If you ever knew a man who wanted to try to wear a silk scarf, consider this one; silk never had so much testosterone:
I can’t tell if there’s navy in here or not – I have a feeling there is. But if you have a wardrobe with lots of shades of muted green, this could be a workhorse for you!
Since winter hasn’t really come to Chicago yet, everybody is wearing their vests constantly…
This scarf is amazing! And the photograph of the designer is a master class in mixing patterns…
I could have chosen at least a dozen colors from this scarf with no trouble, but I settled on 3 neutrals and 2 accents.
I would never have dreamed of putting charcoal with Kelly green, but you never know. And the earrings might surprise you, but I felt like their shape echoed the angular “patches” in the scarf. Of such things are personal style made.
Oh my! This scarf just SCREAMS Belovedest to me… He does wear scarves, including an oversized Hermes, so a silk scarf isn’t out of the question for him… Hmm… Valentine’s Day is coming!
This is another scarf in which there are dozens of color possibilities:
I love this outfit; every now and then, I put together something that surprises even me with its beauty…
Here’s an unexpected combination!
This scarf could be a wonderful accent to a simple black outfit, or a white linen dress (with red sandals?), or the black and white outfit at the top.
But I thought – to spark conversation, and our imaginations – that I would assemble an outfit that breaks quite a few rules:
“Oh, she wears the most boring clothes! V-neck sweaters, plain shirts and black pants all the time…”
Shake them up a bit, eh?
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I found 12 outfits to wear with a taupe, teal, and orange scarf…

When I first saw the Mascia scarf on their website I fell in love with it. I do combine charcoal with green as I have other scarves with that match-up, so perfect! I agree with you the rose and brown collection is quite lovely. I have always liked red and pale blue and a few summers ago built a small summer capsule around it. I still have some of the pieces. Perhaps I should revive them. After reading quite a few (ok, all of them) of your postings on decluttering recently, I’m actually considering decluttering by using scarves. Which scarves do I have and love and wear frequently? What are the capsules I can build around them?
Sally in St Paul says
Love the idea of de-cluttering around favorite scarves! Even if you don’t end up de-cluttering anything, having some mini-capsules built around your favorite scarves could be enlightening in itself.

I do love a man who wears a scarf. And the two presented here are fantastic! I can picture Stanley Tucci wearing the Nick Wooster scarf.

Some intriguing colour combinations. Who knew that aqua and red might just ‘work’?
The multicoloured Pierre-Louis Mascia reminds me of my English teacher in the 1970’s who dressed every day in an array of multicoloured patterns – checks, florals, paisley and Fair Isle usually on top of tight brown trousers!

Hahaha, I love your last outfit – especially because: If you remove the scarf, bag and earrings, it is a red-black-white outfit. So if you’re indoors and it is too hot – you can still feel “matched” if you shed your accessories. Everything is beautiful, as usual – i wore charcoal and bright green yesterday (and loved it) – I went the green & gold accessory route, but have done the same with silver & green. I think that is one of my favorite parts about green – it lends itself to both gold and silver. Pair with navy, go gold; pair with a cool grey, go silver… or mixed metals, one of my favorites. Heck, i even pair green with rose gold for a fun contrast :)
I hope you’re feeling 100% better!!

I love the last outfit. I could add all of that seamlessly into my wardrobe and everything would work so well.

All lovely but so different. Yes to Charcoal Gray and Kelly Green. And yes to Red and Aqua, already have a couple of scarves in that palette. And a reminder to wear my quilted vest on warmer days in winter although we’ve got single digit temps coming next week. Brrr!
Linda says
OOO this is so much fun!!! Thank you so much for all of your work, Janice!
Kate says
Okay . . . that last outfit? Absolutely adorable!

I like the two print mix scarves in the post. The black/olive polka dot/camo scarf would fit right into my fall/winter capsule, but I definitely would hesitate at the bold orange initials on it because that pop of blaze orange with camo has a strong hunting association for me. The “patchwork” one is really nice but not quite my desired color palette. I did notice that both of these scarves bring the print party all the way to the edges of the scarf!
I think the sky blue/aqua + red color scheme is a lot of fun. I have usually seen it with a deeper color of aqua, though, rather than this very light sky blue. I personally would prefer the stark black and white outfit with a darker, richer aqua, but I think the softer, lighter sky blue + red would work well with a faded-looking black or dark grey or denim…
Curious what would be “rule breaking” about the last outfit. The prominent use of two accent colors? I agree that it is out of the norm…though not for me. I already have a maroon pullover sweater, dark wash blue jeans, a peacock blue quilted vest, a paisley scarf in aqua/maroon/orange/blue, and brown leopard smoking slippers picked out for Sunday’s outfit (with handmade multi-color earrings and bracelets to bring these colors together). It remains to be seen whether this hits my colorful/maximal sweet spot or is a bit much even for me, haha.

I love the aqua and red! It’s very cheerful. It also feels very 1950s to me, especially a 1950s kitchen. Probably because many, many years ago (approx 2004 because I was planning my wedding) Martha Stewart Weddings magazine did palettes inspired by decades and they did aqua & red for the fifties. Being Martha, everything was lovely and so well coordinated.
Aqua is one my accent colors and I find it useful all year except autumn. Light for spring and summer but also icy in the winter.
Ange says
I wonder if you have considered aqua with chocolate brown for autumn? Brown may not be one of your colors but as I read your sentence about autumn, chocolate pants and an aqua sweater flashed into my mind.

My favorite design of the bunch is the collage by Mascia. My favorite color scheme is the brown and rose Rowland. I have a problem with equating camo with the frivolity of fashion. I have a red, white, aqua and navy scarf that I love the motif of. The problem I’m having with it is not looking like a flag in it. Echo tells us a bit about the designer and their designated charity. I wish they would tell us more about the scarf designs.
Vicki from New Zealand says
I really like Pierre-Louise’s vest, and wish it were mine !!! And I would wear a small-print shirt, but not a print scarf as well. He looks very styly, though.
I wondered about the rule-breaking also. Are the red shoes a rule-breaker? I remember being told once not to wear red socks, as they “make you look shorter”. Since I am not short, no worries! I like that outfit a lot.
Mary says
Several of these hit the spot perfectly for me! I love both the charcoal and green and the aqua and red outfits – they are both combinations I’ve worn frequently in the past. Today I’m actually wearing a charcoal print with aqua, green, rose, and a kind of mustardy yellow in it, so this is all right up my alley.
The picture of the designer is just perfection. I think I’ve found a new style muse!

I don’t recall how I found The Vivienne Files, but I’m glad I did. I’ve been immersing myself in creating travel capsule wardrobes based on the colors in an inspiration piece.
It came in handy today, when I had to pack for a family emergency that will have me away from home for a couple months. I started with my inspiration piece and pulled tops, bottoms & some accessories for a week’s worth of clothes. With a tighter, but not boring, palette I’m bringing fewer clothes but feel like I have more options than I’m used to having.
Linda in Bluffton says
Thanks for the constant inspiration! I recently bought the Echo 100 Dale Chihuly scarf and am using it for a travel capsule. Always so fun!
Kristen says
Thank you for mentioning the Chihuly scarf. Went to Seattle and fell in love with his work. What a gorgeous scarf! I think I found my birthday gift to myself.
Janice says
Move fast – there are only 10 of them left!
hugs,
Janice

I really like the Amdon scarf, but I’m besotted with the Marcia scarf. Ooh, I wish I wore scarves!
Yes to kelly green and charcoal grey. Meh to the aqua and red. Maybe it’s a little too 1950’s kitchen for me. I like all the pieces individually and would use them all, but not together. I really want some red shoes. I really don’t need red shoes. So sad. 😭

I wish ECHO would let us know what philanthropies all 100 scarves were representing. I am holding out on choosing thinking that there might be one I’d really like to support. Love all the outfits you have put together Janice.
Mary says
They do. You just have to scroll down a bit in the description. It’s actually one of the most interesting parts to me.
Janice says
They do mention the charities, somewhere near the end of each scarf description. And I’m with you on wanting to support a favorite charity, but if you fall in love with a scarf, don’t hesitate! I know that the Dale Chihuly scarf is down to the last 10…
hugs,
Janice

I just love that last one. Black white aqua and red is a combo that says January to me and is a way to ease out of the holidays.
