The Clients Are Nervous…
She sold the initial contracts… And now that it’s time to actually execute the project, the staff assigned to the work are worried about how the clients have been acting. Sigh…
So she’s going to travel with them, and spend a day – maybe two – with everybody. Just to make sure that the clients are happy, and that they understand that these very technical staff are part of the same organization. Yes, they’re a lot more… conventional… than she is!
The clients were maybe expecting everyone to be as colorful and unconventional as their salesperson…
So she packs up a few things and books a ticket with the rest of the crew:
She’s actually not ALL that “out there” – some days she wears a simple black outfit with a colorful scarf.
Yes, some days her attire is a bit brighter…
And if she wakes up in the right mood, she might be downright bold!
Surely they’re not expecting a bunch of engineers to wear cobalt blue pants!
love,
Janice
p.s. Five years ago, our heroine the opera singer packed a wardrobe of dresses!
Sheila says
This is amazing. I would have worn this once upon time – not now… where did that person go?? 😂 The colors just don’t suit me at almost 70. I do still wear emerald green. Black is long gone, and I’ve never worn the cobalt blue. For whatever reason. Anyway, lovely capsule as usual. Have a great weekend ladies.
Danielle says
Lol I wear them all, at 70, as long as the green is bright. And so far black still looks better on me, rather than navy, according to world’s foremost authority—my daughter. That might change if my hair turns grey, but so far it mostly hasn’t (although I do have a dark blue wash on it). Still a winter, whatever that means.
Rebecca says
I have both a pair of green pants and a pair of cobalt blue pants that I wear to work regularly. I wear them with neutral garments that are on the conservative side, and it works pretty well. They fit really well, so that makes all the difference to me.
This wardrobe looks really good to me.

Sorry this is off topic, but is anyone else not getting email notifications about the latest posts? I’ve missed the last three now, and was wondering if it’s just me or a more widespread problem. Janice, I so look forward to your posts and don’t want to miss anything! I was thinking of subscribing again but thought I’d post this before I did as maybe other people are having the same trouble. Thanks for any feedback.
M. M. says
I am also not receiving posts lately. When I put in theviviennefiles.com in my browser, I get ancient posts. I finally went to Pinterest, found a recent one I had saved, and kept clicking to the next until I had the ones I’ve missed. Yes I checked the spam/trash folders to see if the posts went there. Help! I look forward to the posts. Thank you, Janice, for your help with this and for making my days when you post.
KMJ says
Same here. No emails the last three times.
Kristi says
I haven’t been getting them either, but since I know the posting rotation is Monday, Wednesday, Friday I just check the blog on those days for the new post. OK, who are we kidding I check every day to look at the beautiful clothes again and catch up on new comments. :)
Janice says
I just asked my technical helper to take a look – I thought that I’d fixed it!
The problem started with I lost my ATM card; I have a habit of just sticking it in my hip pocket when I run downstairs to the market. (yes, we have a small supermarket in the basement of our building!). I was using that card to pay for the email service, and the SECOND that the payment was declined, they shut me off!
After 10 years, I would have hoped for a few days grace… but NO! Still, I gave them a new card number, and they’re STILL being recalcitrant. Sheesh!
hugs,
Janice
C from Holland says
I used to click on ‘home’ to find the most recent post. That does not work anymore.
bren says
I just received the email notifying me of a new post (I’m on European time, that’s why I’m awake!) so hopefully the problem has been fixed. Many thanks to you or your technical helper for looking into this. Having said that, the ‘new’ post was actually that from the 12th, but I’m assuming that that was the intention since that’s the latest post. I sometimes forget to look on the MWF, so I appreciate the reminder. Heck, I guess I should just say I’m getting old and sometimes forget what day it is! Thanks again for all you do.

I am 75, still have my natural strawberry blonde hair colour and blue eyes. This collection is so me with the exception of the cobalt blue pants – that would be a fun, funky addition to wear on these gray, wet days that are comprising our 2024 winter. Adding a sunny yellow long sleeved tee or sweater and a few accessories would make me look forward to getting dressed for the day 😄. Thanks for giving me some fresh new ideas!
AK says
Bright, bold colors always appeal to me. This is such a beautiful capsule made more so by the simplicity of the garments and the perfect accessories. The necklace from Anthropologie makes perfect sense, especially if this heroine has more of these colors in her closet at home. Oh, and the Sorel boots are both pretty and practical, I don’t wear black so I always check pieces I like for other colors and the boots come in 4 or 5 more options.
Wendy says
I love clear colours but my pale and ever-lightening skin reacts better to softer hues now. Still, I love today’s colours.
I adore today’s look back post! I see far more dresses being worn on an everyday basis than many VF wardrobes show. Yes, most women veer to wearing pants/trousers on a daily basis but there are lots whose wardrobes have fifty+ percent dedicated to dresses and a few skirts…..far more than one just-in-case skirt or dress.
That said, it would be lovely to catch up with the opera singer and see what she would wear now that dress styles have changed.
Sheila says
Just FYI, the most recent ECHO email just dropped into my in box and features some of Janice’s capsules… awesome. Bonus!
Wendy says
I hope they paid her a fee for using her work!!
Janice says
No fee – I’ll take the exposure! In over 10 years, The Vivienne Files hasn’t really grown at all, so anything that puts my name and work in front of new readers is a bonus for me…

Janice
Sally in St Paul says
I would be happy in this capsule for a short trip, esp. if I switched out the cobalt blue pants for a pair in a similar color but different style/fabrication as these look a bit too lightweight, unstructured, and shiny for my own preferences. The gorgeous Jesse Zhao scarf could anchor an entire winter capsule that incorporates a lot of accent colors (which is appealing to me).
I don’t like the pasta scarf, but admit that this is about as good a capsule as a person could make including it; the only thing I’d change out is substituting a leopard print shoe for the black loafers. The leopard print would go with everything in this capsule and, in the right shade of warm tan-and-black, would bookend the scarf really well. There is not much of that orangey tan/gold color in the capsule, and I visualize the heroine as a dark-haired “winter” type, so having shoes that repeat the same/similar color would create more visual coordination/harmony in the pasta scarf outfits (esp. since there is a lot of silver rather than gold in the jewelry, and none of them are bold gold pieces that create a callback effect). On a heroine with the medium golden blonde of my hair, the pasta scarf would make more visual sense, but the leopard print shoes would still be a perfect bookending touch whether wearing the pasta scarf or not!

Also having email problems. Unsubscribed, subscribed, still nada…I’m sure it will get sorted soon.
I own cobalt pants – many years old now, but Banana Republic and they fit so well. Can’t tell you the number of compliments they garnered. Love the whole bit today!

LOVE these colors!!
Twylt3 says
I haven’t gotten an email post for years. I just check every Monday Wednesday and Friday. I also go back more than once and look at the wardrobes. I wear blue and green, quite often and love this wardrobe. The pants are a bit bold for this fat old lady, so I would probably substitute black.
Laura says
I love this bold, saturated capsule! These are some of my favorite colors, and I like how striking they are together. Thank you for this idea for a travel wardrobe!
Allison says
Love this! Probably would switch out the cobalt pants for a cobalt skirt but everything else would work fine.
Arwen7 says
Happy New Year Janice and all! I know, half the month is gone, but is my first 24 post and in Spain we greet the year all through January!
I like the style, although is not really in ‘my colors’, but they hang lovely as usual 😊
I’m using the post as inspiration to prepare my closet for getting back to classes next week. Is Falkor there? it really feels like the never ending story…!
Cheers & blessings.
Cindy Lyon says
I love this capsule! The colors make me smile. Cobalt is my favorite color.💙
And I still wear a lot of black even though I have gray hair and pale skin.
Amanda Hudson says
I have gray hair and pale skin and wear more black now than I used to. It seems to suit me. My younger hair always had some auburn and so I tended to browns etc. They do me no favor now. Brights are still okay if they are very clear but I tend to keep them on the bottom and in scarves.
I always just check TVF when I get on the computer. Even if it’s not a day Janice posts I re-look at posts and comments.
Janice I can’t believe your site hasn’t really grown. I tell people about it regularly, but maybe it’s because so many view without subscribing. I’m not techy enough to know these things.
Betsy says
This is a fantastic inspiration! I love the intensity and somehow the travel wardrobes always seem more do-able for me. My style is at my best when I’m on a trip, probably because I’ve put so much time and thought into pulling the suitcase together. I suit silver better than gold, but all these colors are right in my best set. And the Jessie Zhao scarf is on sale! It shall be mine. Thanks, Janice!
Mitzi says
This piece of art is amazing, the colors and clothes you selected are wonderful, too. I have never worn these shades of cobalt nor green, but on the right person they would look fabulous. I adore your blog, I hope it starts getting more recognition now with the posts from the ECHO 100 and all, I will do my part and share, too.
Hope you’re feeling all better now, Janice.

I am addicted to these posts! I am traveling to Ireland this coming April and will need to pack light. Still searching for my artwork scarf to use as inspiration! I currently have a lot of basics to build upon but alas no royal blue pants for this lady!
Dee says
Lovely capsule as always😊 glad to hear others were not getting emails as well, but i re-subscribed thinking i did something wrong lol. Love the blue and green together, will check my wardrobe to see if my kelly green will work with my deep aqua, you always give such interesting combination.

Janice,
Sometimes one of your posts will sing to me. This is definitely one of them. Thanks.
Janice says
I can hear the music from here!
Thanks for sharing your song with us,
love,
Janice

I love this! I’ve actually been adding a bit of this green to my winter wardrobe, and I already have the cobalt. I even recently purchased cobalt pants, but they are stretchy and flowey, meant for dance and warm weather. Now I’m thinking I need cobalt jeans for cooler temps and every day wear. I have several short trips coming up, and I will be using this capsule as a guide.
I also stopped receiving emails long ago, just come here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to see the new posts. There must be a glitch in the system somewhere, I know many ladies who also love your posts.
Amanda says
I absolutely love that you found both farfalle earrings AND a pasta scarf! Brilliant!
Janice says
Ah, the pasta scarf was easy – one of the Echo 100 artists did that! And I KNEW that someone had to have made pasta earrings. Didn’t we all make macaroni necklaces when we were little kids?
hugs,
Janice
