Echo has released a total of 14 scarves so far, so let’s take a look at the remaining 8 that I didn’t visit on Friday…
Let’s start with the scarf that I was convinced I didn’t like, until I saw it folded.
Sudden it dawned on me – camel and grey – what’s not to love?
Those days when you’re just not sure what’s appropriate? This kind of outfit – lovely fabrics, subdued colors, and accessories that tie it all together without being gaudy or over the top… Just timeless elegance.
This scarf is the diametric opposite of the first – bold colors and a whimsical image…
I skipped the yellow and deep pink – but you could certainly use them as accent colors…
Those events where you need to be dressy and modest, but you don’t want to be entirely boring…
This next scarf would be excellent with any solid black outfit – maybe other solid neutrals too…
Simple as it is, there are still some color choices:
Why yes, do DO have to wear farfalle earrings with this scarf! There’s also a necklace available, if that suits you better…. I suspect that it’s possible to find a lot of pasta accessories, if you look hard enough! Surely someone’s grandchild will make you a macaroni necklace…
I know that you’re shocked that this was the first scarf that caught my eye! I love how simple this scarf looks when folded…
You could certainly wear this scarf as an accent with a solid dress in…. maybe royal blue, with red and black shoes? Boldness is never wrong…
But I’m sticking with the obvious color choices; there are literally infinite ways to wear any 3 colors.
I have both this shirt and this skirt (and I really love them both!) If I could even vaguely justify buying a sweater, this would be a good option…
If you love to wear black and beige, this is your scarf!
Timelessly elegant colors, and enough possibilities that you could literally have an entire wardrobe JUST of these colors…
I love this look…
This is the most delightful illustration!
Here again, you could include shades of red, gold, and turquoise, if you were so inclined:
Yes, you can wear a silk scarf with sweatpants and sneakers. Why in the world not?
Do you love blue?
I love the way the border is structured….
If you have lots of blue clothes, you already have a LOT of ways to wear this scarf. This just delights me…
The most challenging scarf of all, for me. But it’s an interesting text, sharing a difficult story. Many of us know someone for whom we would wear this scarf…
The same colors that we’ve seen before, but I certainly could have included quite a bit of grey…
If you don’t learn anything else from this post, I hope that it’s clear that owning a good core of basic garments in your “signature” colors will make it much easier to get dressed!
I’m still not certain of a favorite, but I’m starting to lean toward the last scarf…
Do any of you have a preference?
love,
Janice

Love the camel and gray, and also the blue one. I saw the Cowboy print last week, and while I love the print itself, not so sure about wearing it. I do wear green in various shades and the Cowboy could certainly work it’s way in there. It’s much brighter than I usually wear. I missed the blue one entirely. Going back to Friday’s conversation, it really is amazing how different they look folded vs. not.

All beautiful scarves with interesting patterns that you paired nicely with the outfits, but unfortunately most are in colors that really don’t work for me…sigh. The first set were too warm, and this set is mainly too bright, and I’m not fond of high contrast colors (particularly with black) near my face. The only ones that might have possibilities are the gray scarf and the seventh blue scarf though they seem to be leaning a little too light and soft.

Great post – I am off to look at my Camilla scarf folded. This post really made me rethink things.

Scarves have a surprising amount of impact on an outfit, and they (themselves) have a lot of variety. There are people who specialize in folding the same scarf to feature various aspects of the print! Mai Tai’s Picture book is a good source of ideas…

These are all fantastic! I now feel like I should buy a jaunty red sweater!

I like the colors in these scarves better than last week’s scarves. I’m waiting for a scarf from the White House Historical Society, so I’ll pass on these. But I think I can reproduce the colors and garments of many shown here from my closet!

SewLibrarian, you’ve piqued my interest! I didn’t know the White House Historical Society offered scarves, and couldn’t resist searching for them. Now I’m curious as to which of these lovely scarves you’ve chosen. My choice would be the Jackie Kennedy, so of course that is by far the most expensive of the lot. Champagne taste . . .

Love the bright colors! I could wear all of these outfits.

So much creativity in these scarves! And, seriously, why ever pass up the chance to wear a stunning silk scarf just because you outfit is sweats and sneakers? I wear silk scarves with my denim jacket!
LMH says
Wearing silk scarves lets me wear wool sweaters! I usually fold a square scarf in a triangle, making sure the triangle covers any skin at the back of my neck left bare from my t shirt. This stops the wool sweater from touching the sensitive skin around my neck. Looks good and there’s no irritation.

Today I like the outfits better than the specific scarves (though each is lovely in context). I think the boldly colored cowboy scarf is my current favorite based on its folded appearance (I do like the navy/white/cobalt edge and the overall color scheme) but that’s a placeholder – I’m still waiting for a scarf to delight me. I have to say that I’ve been struck by how much opportunity has been wasted on the edges and corners of these scarves. The are mostly either a simple frame for the central image or left plain, which is odd to me because surely the edges and corners are going to be very visible with many of the most basic scarf ties for square silk scarves. I don’t know if that’s an Echo scarf “thing” or a function of how the guest designers chose to work with the space (like a canvas with a frame, for example). I would like to see some that bring the image farther out toward the edges. I guess my own dream scarf would be bursting at the edges, not quite able to contain all the glorious wonder of the image! It will be interesting to see if any of the designers has a similar sensibility.
The navy dress + red cardigan and black striped shirt + red sweater vest are calling to me…in part because I love both pairs of red flats and am already missing bare-leg season! I put on tights with my skirt for the first time of the season today, and I have a LONG road of tights ahead.
I’m loving the sharp multi-colored handbags in the recent posts, but I don’t really have a use case for one; I think I’d have to be VERY committed to a tight color palette to justify it, and everyone knows I’m not! I do like how they repeat the colors of the scarves as a second way to tie the outfit colors together yet the outfit still looks finished and coordinated without them. Sometimes I see outfits presented where the bag really does the heavy lifting of making the outfit look pulled together and/or interesting with a pop of color, etc., and it’s especially disappointing when the outfits are presented specifically as work looks. I don’t know anyone who carries a big handbag or tote around with them in the office!

You know, that’s an excellent point about centralized pattern and edges. I have a ton of scarves (possibly too many?), and all of my favorites have an overall pattern and no specific edge or frame. I can’t say I realized that until this comment, but from here forward it will guide my future scarf purchases! Thank you!

me too! thank you sally!

That first scarf is from huh? to just so surprising! as you say. An elegant combination of colors, interchangeable with the clothes from the shell scarf. Those colors are in my closet and so are the colors in the Richard Haines scarf. So pretty! Thank you!

Andrea Ferolla scarf for me. I have tried and tried to come away from a black, white ,beige, cobalt and red dominated wardrobe. I have tried to change at great expense to navy, burgundy and pale blue but although I do love the colours it’s not doing it for me. I now have a wardrobe of two halves and I don’t know where to go from here. When I look at these scarfs the ones that sing to me are the black, beige and red ones, they are beautiful.

Hi Janice, This is such a great post! I’ve been shopping Echo scarves for years and have just recently started to really look at the pattern and color, as to how it will actually look on. Especially with these new 100 year anniversary scarves, It’s great to see the scarf folded or tied, as it can look completely different!
I so enjoy your blog!

I love the Robert Bonamo scarf! What is that pink? Ripe guava?
But I 100% agree with Sally in wanting a scarf that is “bursting at the edges” :)
The gorgeous colours recede into this scarf when folded, as all the points are neutral :(
It has been really interesting to see how the scarves differ when folded.
Gorgeous outfits to go with these scarves, Janice. I’m weirded out that I even loved the camel & grey!

Though I don’t wear scarves, I really liked the first grey and camel scarf and the one with all the blue (and those outfits, too). When I went back through to look at them all again, I realized I didn’t like any scarf with a noticeable border or line around the edge. The blue border is narrow and matches itself pretty closely, and the other scarf doesn’t have a border at all. This seems like useful information to have if I ever decide to buy a scarf for myself! The first outfit colors make me so happy — this is very close to my favorite fall colors, but I would make the camel a bit closer to blush pink.

While a few colours in some scarves work for me, I only liked the scarves folded. To pop for a scarf, my criteria is loving colours, full image and folded. I have a few Echo for Talbots designs all purchased on a 40% off sale or from clearance. That way, I am trying to keep within a self imposed budget criteria too. A scarf may be lovely, but I have a limit of $50 to what I will spend for one. Anyone else have a limit set as to what you are willing to spend for an accesory item? There is nothing wrong with spending more if that makes you happy! I just picked my limit as half the price of a pair of jeans full price as my limit because then I have to think how often I would use it as opposed to something else that I use frequently.
Julie says
Hi Kari,
My self imposed limit is AUD$10 and it has to be silk or cashmere for that. Usually AUD$5 or less because thrift shops are jam packed with scarves many still with the tags on as women get rid of the very kindly given presents that they just don’t wear. Last purchase was new in the bag Hardy Ames silk pocket square $1.I find it very hard to leave them behind when I see great quality but I know the colours won’t suit me.

I once found an Hermes scarf in Dublin for TWO EUROS. I almost had a heart attack!

I don’t know why, but the ensembles with the gray and beige and also the black and cream are my favorites. I am starting to wear more gray, but cannot wear beige or black. But these sets just seem so soothing!
