Man in a Café by Juan Gris
She Prefers Neutrals…
She likes to play with the proportions – sometimes her coat is the darkest color, sometimes the lightest. And sometimes it’s the color in the middle!
Brown pearl earrings – Lord & Taylor; heather natural cashmere sweater – J.Crew; scarf – Lost Pattern NYC; bracelet – Carved; black corduroy pants – L.L.Bean; Appalachian brown teddy coat – J.Crew; reversible tote – Street Level; loafers – Steve Madden
And when you wear neutrals, you can have other interesting signatures, like two-toned shoes, or corduroy pants…
They’re planning a few trips this autumn and winter…
Heather walnut cashmere sweater – J.Crew; onyx earrings – Anna Beck; triangle print scarf – Otto & Spike; striped top – Everlane; heart earrings – Olivia Le; amber “bunny” earrings – Ninemoo; black cardigan – J.Crew; bone corduroy pants – Orvis; brown silk shirt – Orvis; hedgehog brooch – Fable England; scarf – The Met Store; handbag – Fossil; skirt – Haband; tan & bone loafers – Jeffrey Campbell; ballet flats – Bernardo Footwear
For this first one, in the truest heart of autumn, she has chosen to emphasize the brown in her wardrobe:
This is a small travel wardrobe – a Six-Pack… but she can get a lot of mileage from it:
She’s quite sure that she will be packing a grey, denim blue and black wardrobe soon…
love,
Janice
p.s. Six years ago, our heroine was packing a tote bag for an overnight trip into the city…

I love this. Real autumn colours, with some black (because even for an Autumn through and through, black is so useful – as long as there is something autumn and lighter between that and my face).
(It also makes me think back to these two: https://www.theviviennefiles.com/2020/06/start-with-2-scarves-a-camel-and-olive-green-accented-travel-capsule-wardrobe.html/

THIS is exactly my wardrobe for this fall! I love everything about it. Please have this wonderful heroine pack for more getaways….
These colours play so nicely together – so cozy and rich.
I’ve been drawn to neutrals this year, and I agree with Wendy this wardrobe looks very cozy and rich. I haven’t jumped whole heartedly into brown, but I’ve acquired a couple of pieces. Work in progress. Looking forward to seeing the other postings for this heroine.
The bone & brown loafers are calling to me. They also come in brown and brown croc! I love how brown or tan can accessorize navy, Oxford blue, red, coral, grey and black. (Other colors, too!)
A beautifully elegant wardrobe. I love it and would wear it all even though I think I am a winter colour palette person!
Can you use some of Kandinsky’s works for inspiration?
Absolutely! I love Kandinsky…
hugs,
Janice
Beautifully done!
Cozy and rich is right! I love a good 6 pack. It’s the heart of a wardrobe distilled down to the core.
Oh, the brown items are so pretty. I love that medium shade that has a hint of copper and a touch of gold…exactly the colour of the coat. I’m convinced that if only I could find it easily, it would be my perfect ‘dark’ neutral. So far, I have managed one pair of cords that shade in 2 years. So for now, it is an accent to my blue, green, gold and ivory. I’d never wear the black, but rather like the rest of this. Thank you Janice for yet another pretty combo.
Just lovely and my way of packing!!!
The two-toned loafers are so dapper – happy to see statement footwear in this capsule.
Oh how I wish that floral skirt weren’t sold out!
When I did a close-up on that skirt, my computer showed a lot of red. That wasn’t what I was expecting from the overall view which I found very appealing.
Two-tone shoes! Now you’re talking! Shopping time!
Oh, I could absolutely get on board with this travel capsule! Rich and cozy, indeed. I believe that you have convinced me that black and brown do play nicely together.
Oh, Janice, this Travel 6-pack is perfect. The combo of black and brown always reels me in. Must have a pair or two of the two-tone loafers. This inspires me to take a weekend trip, perhaps by train? Thank you!
I think if I put that coat on I might just take a cue from the bears and hibernate it in. It looks so cozy!!!
I see burgundy, charcoal grey, cream and light blue-gray. That would work for me!
Love the painting and loved the previous wardrobe associated with it. Waiting for the other combinations will be difficult. Taupe with black works for me; therefore, I would substitute taupe for the brown, especially since there is all ready a taupe “coatagin” in the closet. Really appreciate Beth’s suggestion of burgundy for brown, that would also work for me. Waiting impatiently for the next installment.
I’m really looking forward to how this heroine will pack for additional trips!
This is a great choice for next year’s monthly project!
