The longest day of the year – if we can’t think about warm weather clothes NOW, when can we? (unless, of course, we live south of the Equator…)
A dark sleeveless top is one of those things that is always handy…
It’s not easy to find these in colors much beyond navy, black, and maybe olive, so if your dark neutral if harder to find, do NOT pass up a top like this in your color if you find one…
If you want to wear your amazing necklace against a different background than your neck/upper torso, a tank top is the answer!
You can sport around all day when it’s warm in your sleeveless top, and then slip on your plaid shirt when the sun goes down:
If your favorite shorts are in a color that you don’t like to wear in a shirt, then wear a neutral instead!
Any color will look nice with your neutral linen “suit”:
Yes, you can wear your chambray dress to work!
Wednesday, I’m going to look at accessories for some of our earlier wardrobes, starting with that tan/caramel/sienna one!
love,
Janice
p.s. Four years ago we saw a flashback to a REALLY old post – wearing camel and blue…

Purple! This is my 3rd neutral because I love it so much, though a challenge to find. My sleeveless would be a camisole to wear under tops and cardigans. I haven’t yet found one dark enough, though I have several in light and mid shades of purple. To wear it on it’s own, I would prefer cap sleeves.

Haha, I get excited when my husband and I are wearing similar colors because it happens infrequently, but we never attempt to coordinate. He has a couple different “uniforms” (e.g., long-sleeved button up shirt + jeans + brown belt + brown leather sneakers/hiking shoes) that he wears all the time, and he naturally developed a capsule wardrobe because there are a small number of colors he likes to wear.

Oops, nesting fail!

Just wondering whether VF readers wear the same colours or coordinate their outfits with their partners (either intentionally or unintentionally). At the weekend, we noticed a lady and her husband both wearing shades of mauve/lilac.
I can only do this with my husband when he wears a navy blazer in the summer or burgundy/wine colours in the winter. He wears shades of green and brown most of the time.

My mom and dad used to do that. Same colour dress abd shirt with say grey skirt and trousers. Or she would knit them jerseys (sweaters?) with the same wool and stitch, but different patterns.

It unintentionally happens with my partner all the time! We like and wear similar colors so we often end up unwittingly coordinating, especially in the colder months. In Spring and Summer I tend to wear more white, yellow and pink, which definitely aren’t colors he favors.

I have many many sleeveless tops as I tend to layer. Supposed to be very hot here today – perhaps breaking records – and I’m starting a summer job (while out on school break) and don’t know what to expect, so I suspect it will be layers again today! Loved the look of the first selection, I would probably skip the heavy looking necklace in this heat though! My husband and I would never even think of coordinating colors of clothing unless we had to for some reason… :)

Instead of a tank style, a sleeveless button and collar style looks better on me. The buttons add a vertical line. It’s something about my narrow shoulders and avoiding a matronly look (at my matronly age:). I’ve got a navy linen one that ticks this week’s box perfectly.
I love starting my day with VF. I don’t what I’d do without it. Thank you, Janice.

Lizette, great point about the vertical line created from the buttons! I have a sleeveless, collar-less chambray button up shirt that always looks great, and that vertical line of buttons is probably a big factor. I really like a long pendant necklace (or if it’s not as warm, a long lightweight scarf) with a knit tank top…probably because it also creates that vertical line.

Sally, I like the sleeveless, collarless button up shirt too, but only have two. They are such an easy thing to wear by themselves, yet you can layer. Sometimes I use my chambray one more like a vest and wear a tank under. I do have a hard time finding them though without patch pockets. Any suggestions?

I try to avoid sleeveless as it makes my narrow shoulders more so. However, a collared sleeveless top might work as an open collar draws the eye out. Something new to try.
Though I shall have to work on my upper arms in the gym. Why do women seem to get saggy arms almost overnight as soon as they hit 50?
Sally in St Paul says
Kathryn, I wish sleeveless collarless shirts were more available. I’ve only ever had luck with that one!

I love the cupro tank, the color, the shape and the look of the fabric which is a new one to me. I appreciate your finding interesting garments like this.
My husband and I often find ourselves wearing similar colors for church. It’s never planned.

Love the J Crew clothes you have been featuring lately. So glad J Crew seems to have found their stride again. I would wear pretty much any of those outfits.
