Good for you. I hope you have a relaxing break and recharge your batteries.
This is a lovely painting by an impressionist artist that is new to me.
From where I’m sitting at my dining table, I’m looking at yellow, orange and white roses in a vase on the sideboard and a painting of a yellow rose. If I look to my right, I can see the large red floribunda roses in our front garden that have been known to continue blooming into December.
Rest up and take care of yourself Janice! You provide us an escape every single day and you really should take more of those for yourself! Be well! Love your inspiring vision and look forward to your return!
I love impressionist art. This is just lovely. I understand the need for rest and recharge. After a brutal couple of weeks at work, I’m looking at a five day weekend this week. Looking forward to your return.
Janice,
You have supported us and brought us so much joy and delight during this unique time in our county’s and the world’s history , so take a much deserved break ! When you return, I would enjoy seeing another review of the “ how many clothes do you need “ concept .
The roses in the above painting have so many layers of values — such a delight to the eye ! Enjoy your reprieve !
Oh Janice, please take care of yourself. You are loved by so many people. Thank you for your wonderful posts that lift us up, especially during these crazy days. Wishing you much health and happiness!
The navy skirt I’m planning on taking on holiday with me has stylised roses this colour. I’ve worn it once this year so it deserves to be packed for if we have dinner out – that would be nice. I wear it with an ivory tee shirt and a geranium pink cardigan.
Sounds a fabulously cheerful colour for lounging. We all need PJ days. I spend those days reading or watching my favourite films and TV series. Hope you feel refreshed and relaxed whatever you do.
Have a wonderful break! Whatever you need! I’ll be going back over some of my favorite past posts and checking my 4×4 wardrobe for late summer and early fall for black/grey/blue/white. I’ve become partial to green and lavendar accent colors. (We’ll see if the grey stays in the mix.) Thank you so much, Janice, for all you do.
Please take a good break for as long as you need. I think I can speak for all of us when I say how much we appreciate your posts over the past few months, even those of us who don’t post replies frequently. We are still reading and absorbing your words. Grazie!
Oh, enjoy your break! I’m so very thankful for your work. If I need a Vivienne fix, I’ll just head down memory lane. Your older stuff just never seems to look dated and I still enjoy scrolling through past years’ posts.
My biggest goal (aside from everybody having some fun!) is that these post NOT look dated. I abhor what fads and trends do to women’s self-confidence, as well as our budgets…
Hi Everyone: So maybe we all can come up with our own 4×4 from this painting so Janice can enjoy her time off…
So I’m seeing possible neutrals in grey, beige/camel and olive green. I am seeing accents in Orange (my personal fave) and pink, with some orchid purple for a little flash.
So in my current closet for the current weather I have a short sleeved beige/tan shell, beige pants, beige/tan shorts, and a beige/tan long sleeved jersey cardigan (almost like a duster).
For olive green I have a tank top, a short-sleeved pullover top, a blazer with open lapels, and a long sleeved top.
So I could throw in my sleeveless peach tunic top, my sleeveless print tank in pink/olive, my pink short-sleeved t shirt, and this really nice floral short sleeved top that has grey and pink and purple.
If I had to dress up a little, I have a swirly grey skirt and a nice short sleeved olive dress, and a beige/tan shirtdress . I also have a fancy schmancy sleeveless purple dress.
All of my shoes or sandals would be flats with closed toes because I don’t trust I won’t stub or drop things on myself. I have some lovely open toed beige heels that I need an occasion to wear someplace.
If I am ‘zooming’ in with my college students in the afternoon I would tend toward the ‘dressy’ side, and if I am working with my 2 to 3 year olds in the mornings then it’s business casual wash n wear.
What 4×4 do you see?
Fun!
I’d be building around gray and navy/denim neutrals and accents of med/dark pink, med/dark teal, and magenta/plum! These accents tend to be my cold weather colors, so it would be an autumn/winter wardrobe for me. – nancyo
I immediately saw the idea of dark teal and ivory with various different pinks. How lovely. But, yes the closer I looked, I could see mauve and plum and grey. I’m not sure about adding navy, though dark denim would work as it is a softer colour.
Would a 4×4 be enough for a week plus shoes/boots and accessories? This will be the first time that I have really planned a holiday wardrobe like this. Usually, I either take too much or don’t take enough of the right clothes because the weather is different locally to that forecast. I’ll ask my daughter for help in assembling it.
I have ten days to think of my holiday wardrobe and slim down to get back into my teal trousers ?

I usually use a 4×4 for travel capsules, although for a trip that’s a couple of weeks long I’ll often add another few pieces. And if I’m going to do specific activities like hiking, I’ll add a little cluster. – nancyo

Lovely Janice,
Just like the McDonald’s tagline: “You deserve a break today” – but with all that you do for us…you probably need more than a break “today”!
Thank you for all of your humorous stories, beautiful art and clever ways of helping us dress ourselves.
Linda P – How wonderful your post is! I am just starting to put a new wardrobe together after loosing a bunch of weight – this painting had me thinking (I love the colors)…
Your thoughts of a 4 x 4 with the grey/beige/camel/olive neutrals is exactly what I had in mind! Peaches are my favorite – thanks for the ideas and thank you Janice, as always, for the inspiration!

Linda P,
Nice work, though I did not read of some olive bottoms which might add some mileage to all of the tops . I would love to see your fancy schmancy purple dress !
I do the same as you, taking Janice’s formats into my own closet and using them to see where there are clusters and where there are needs .
Everyone needs a break, even in lockdown! My daughter reminded me of that.
We have plenty to look back on, Janice, from all your hard work during these challenging times. Your classic approach to style is brilliant!
We are here when you get back. Meantime…time for closet audit ans cool weather planning.

Ah! I’m wearing a flamingo pink tee shirt and matching shorts, from Colorful Standard. Not quite pajamas, but close!

Hi Helen
Lavender and grey look fabulous together. So hope you keep the grey just to wear with lavender.
Have fun reviewing your wardrobe
