Yesterday, I had a colonoscopy. Everything was fine, EXCEPT I had an atrociously bad reaction to the sedative. I won’t share the gruesome details….
But normal service on The Vivienne Files will be restored tomorrow, and the Friday post will very possibly not be finished until Saturday.
I didn’t expect this; I should have planned for a worst-case scenario! I always assume that I’m bulletproof…
love,
Janice
p.s. The painting of lilacs? My favorite flowers! I’m just trying really HARD to be cheerful…

As if the prep for a colonoscopy wasn’t bad enough! You poor thing! Take some days off and give your body a chance to recover. Get some rest. Get some more rest! Not that we won’t miss your posts, but we can certainly wait until you are much, much better.
Lee says
Congratulations on taking good care of yourself by having a colonoscopy. They can be far from pleasant but, I assure you, it is better than dealing with cancer! This procedure gives peace of mind. Either you get a clean bill of health or cancerous growths are detected and dealt with. It is not an exaggeration to say that a colonoscopy saved my life 8 years ago so I am a firm believer. Unpleasant. Oh yes. Vital necessity for health and well being. Absolutely.
Taste of France says
Dear Janice,
I hope you recover swiftly. And, despite the sedative problem, I am very glad you got a colonoscopy. My husband had colon cancer in 2018 and it has come back, this time metastasized, inoperable, terminal. The discomfort of a colonoscopy is nothing next to the agony of colon cancer.
I hope they give you a better sedative next time.
Shrebee says
Taste of France,

I am so sorry Janice that you had a bad reaction. I also struggle with the after effects of anesthesia. It’s no fun. I have found some anesthesiologists who listen to my history and many who don’t. It’s very frustrating.
I hope you recover soon and please don’t let this experience keep you from having regular checkups!
Your blog is great fun – both the clothes AND the commentary! I’ll look forward to seeing your next post after you take the time you need to recover.

Dear Janice,
lilacs are a particular favourite of mine too. I wrote a little homage to you, though I haven’t your eye. Feel better…xoxo
She hasn’t seen lilacs in 20 years, not since she traded them for camellia blossoms and no snow, but her bosom friend from childhood called, and they’re going on a walking tour of stately manors. They will see and smell lots of lilacs. She pulls out her catalogue and makes a list. Inspired by her favourite painting, of her favourite flowers.

Janice, I’m so sorry you are suffering. Take your time getting well and let Belovedest take care of you! We’ll be fine without any new posts. You’ve provided years of content for us to revisit. I don’t often comment, but I’ve read every post for at least 5 years and have learned so much about wardrobe planning and travel planning from you. You’re a treasure! Hugs!

How kind of you to even think of us while you are feeling horrible. Hoping that you feel better soon.
Danielle says
I’m so sorry. The last time I had one, my heart rate went down to 30bpm under the anesthesia and an aide ran all over the hospital looking for my daughter in case I didn’t wake up. I’d told her to go have coffee as it was “nothing”. Hope for the best, plan for the worst!
Julie says
Oh, no! I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m sure we would all agree: Take your time to recover, and we if we really need our Vivienne fix, we have a wealth of old posts to enjoy. (Following you for several years has actually has been inspiring to me, as a new blogger, to see how a website gets richer, fuller over time. You have so much great content, and I never get tired of it.)
After a couple of bad reactions, I’ve become terrified of going under again. But, when my husband had his colonoscopy, he came out of the anesthesia soooo happy, so sweet and loving. Gushed about my beauty and how grateful he was for me. I asked the nurse if she could give him some more of that stuff, lol.
Lorrie says
Lilacs are comforting flowers. Sending thoughts across the miles for a good recovery from the sedative. Thank you for all of your wonderful posts; there are many to keep us in reading material while you recuperate.
Sharon says
Thanks for sharing Janice, don’t rush to resume business by Friday, sleep off the trauma and let your body and mind recover. No one will think any less of you if you postpone blogs until Monday. After all, we have a huge archive to re-visit and spring wardrobe planning to be getting on with.
Amy says
Janice, I’m so sorry to hear of your bad reaction. Take care and don’t worry about getting back to work so soon. We’ll all be here when you’re feeling better.

Janice, it is far more important for you to rest and get well. Your posts are great, but take al the time you need to recover completely before trying to do all the work you do to get out your posts! Wishing you a restful day while dreaming of lilacs,

Wishing you a speedy recovery (and no COVID).
Anne S says
Don’t worry about us, we will wait. Your health is so much more important. I’m sorry it didn’t go as expected for you but happy to hear you got one. I did my 2nd one last November, it didn’t go as expected either. Darn it, life happens. Hang in there and get well.
Janice says
At least we’re able to have these tests; I keep telling myself that I should be grateful that I have access to such good medical care! It’s sort of hard though when you have these amazingly ghastly reactions, eh?
hugs,
Janice
Helen says
Your health comes first! I think I can speak for many of us and say we live you and want you to take the time you need and enjoy the lilacs. When you are back up to speed, can we see a wardrobe based on this exquisitely beautiful painting?
Ardyth Eisenberg says
No apologies needed for events out of your control! Drink lots of water — it helps flush your system. I’d also suggest (being married to a retired medical school chairman) that you find out if that sedative is used for any other outpatient procedures you might possibly have in the future. Get better.
