First Cool Thing
You may have figured out by now that my most beloved mother lives in Florida… which suggests warm weather, pools…
POOLS? You’re not gettin’ me in some skimpy little string-bottomed, fat-revealing piece of Lycra!
That was me, for quite a long time. But having children in the family changes all rules, so I took a chance, and I AM THRILLED.
I LOOK GOOD IN THIS!
Trust me. Take your measurements, be patient, and TRY THESE. I was so happy… There’s a pool in my building! And a HOT TUB! And I can USE THEM BOTH!!!!!
excuse me, I’m shouting because I’m happy; it’s a great reason to shout….
Yes, wrestling your upper torso into the top is a project, because of the built-in bra. But it’s worth the effort.
Second Cool Thing
If you’re like me, and you love to travel, and you’re always trying to remain disciplined and focused so that you can save money for your adventures, how about this?
I’m wearing it every day. When I reach into my bag for my wallet, or when I’m sitting at my desk and reach for my credit card, it’s RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.
A reminder. Maybe even an admonition. A totem that helps me focus on what I really want.
How nice is that?
love love love,
Janice
p.s. Oh yes, the question! Have any of you ever flown the Air Lingus really dirt cheap fares? We’re flying from Chicago to Paris next month (my THIRD attempt to get to Paris this autumn/winter) and we are profoundly unclear on how much (or little) we can carry on. I know that we have to pay dearly to check bags, but we might manage with carry-on.
Help???

Perfect timing! I’m heading off on an all-expense-paid Bahamas cruise over Christmas, and will need a new suit. It’ll be my first time in Florida.
Sure would love to see what you’d recommend for a week’s travel with unpredictable weather. I’m always cold and am worried about it on this cruise.
Gini says
Have you tried stepping into the tankini top as if it were a one piece suit? Sounds weird but it worked for me with a tankini I used to own.
Loving the bracelets.
Janice says
I’ll try it – sounds like it might be the answer!

Janice

This is what I do! Much easier than trying to get the top down over my very ample chest and wrestling “the girls” in to position. I learned this trick when I had an injured shoulder.

I wear the Lands End swim shorts and top with a tee shirt to walk the board walk in the summer in the early morning. After getting warm from the walk, I whip off my tee shirt and jump into the ocean in my swim suit. Throw the tee shirt on again after the swim and am presentable enough to walk back to the car. I’m almost 70 and have been wearing the Lands End swim shorts and top for years. They are just great.

I’ve been wearing the Lands End swim shorts and tops for years. I walk the boardwalk in the early morning with one of their SPF swim shirts over the bathing suit top; I buy them large so they fit like a tee shirt, not too tight. After the walk on the boards I take of the tee shirt, jump in the ocean for a swim, put the tee shirt back on the get to the car and I’ve had a wonderful morning before 9 AM. I’ve been wearing this combo for years – they are just great.

That sounds like such a lovely morning routine!

We’ve flown AL twice from Toronto to Dublin. They were in no way sticklers about bags. We each had a backpackers backpack and an under seat carryon. No prob at all. They’re actually one of my favorite airlines. Happy flying!

After my old “tugless tank” had the lycra shatter, I took my measurements and picked out another tugless, but also eyeballed the tankinis. Then, I called Land’s End for fitting help; yes, one of those really hard to fit folks in a problem size few others carry.
I have a flattering top and the longer skirt bottom with swim panty included for a flattering tankini suit ready for hot tub and pool moments and handy for the failing air conditioner at home in the summer.
I also picked up a coordinating coverup up with pockets for keys and such.

Janis – I’m leaving for Paris in a week on Aer Lingus. Here is what I found on their website. I plan to follow this – hope it helps! https://www.aerlingus.com/travel-information/baggage-information/cabin-baggage/ Susan
Beth says
Also in the Baggage Information section above is a section for Checked In Baggage which can be added to your reservation up to two hours before you fly. Price depends on the size of the bag but you might only need one extra bag between the two of you. If you have a Smart, Flexfare booking you are entitled to free check-in of one bag up to 23kg (50lb) and two additional bags can be purchased. If you are travelling Business class you have free check-in of three bags with a total max weight of 69kg (150lb).
Happy flying

Janis – We’ve flow AL from Toronto to Dublin 2x. Neither time did anyone care about bags :) We each had backpacker sized backpacks and an underseat bag. No problem either time. AL is my just about my favorite airline right now. Happy travels! Sara

I just ordered the swim shorts and a one of those high-necked tops using your link. I have an old swim short from Land’s End that I’ve worn for years (I don’t go swimming often any more) and a tankini top I bought at Target. But I’m a little bigger than I used to be so I need a new one of those, and I like this tank-top style. I think the swim shorts look great so I’m trying them. Thanks!

I really love Land’s End swimwear, especially the Tugless Tank which I wear with one of the long sleeved sun protection tees. I also have a dark blue tankini top with a striped swim mini. They are attractive, modest, and comfortable. I got excellent sizing advice over the phone, too. Highly recommended.

I am busty and buying swimsuits was hell. Nothing fit. At one point I bought a suit and stitched an old bra into it. Then I discovered Land’s End suits with DDD underwire bras. Yay!!

Love the bracelets – a great gift idea for a frequent flyer or to give to a young backpacker.
Have a good journey

Although these bangles are all sold out on the Fierce Lynx designs website, they are available on Etsy and other online marketplaces. Just search for “aeroplane and earth” + bangle.
Janice says
And I suspect Fierce Lynx will get some back in stock. She’s a friend, so I’m biased! As we all should be,right?

I converted to swim shorts years ago. I love that they don’t creep up and leave a cheek hanging out. Mine have pockets–bonus. I am sun-averse, so I tend to wear a bikini top as a bra and put on a rash guard over it. Nobody ever sees my stomach. Shorts look so much sportier than those swim skirts, which are weird in the water, floating up around one’s waist.
Love your bracelets!
Ev says
I wear the swim shorts when kayaking with one of the tankini tops or one of their rash guards. Makes it so much more comfortable since I splash water everywhere when in the kayak!

I hope to be blessed enough to live to see my grandkids and to swim with them.

I have worn Lands End Suits for years. They are such high quality. I’m finding now, though, that I prefer the men’s swim shorts for the longer length and better pockets.
Good idea about the bracelets. They are so pretty.
