March 1, 2018
Who couldn’t be happy that it’s finally March? (I swear, I think February might have been the longest month of my life!) Let’s buy some sweaters and skirts, if only in our imaginations…
For some reason it’s become a tradition for me to include canvas shoes or espadrilles with the outfits in March. Some of them are a stretch, I’ll admit!
This wardrobe is unlike anything else I’ve ever assembled!
Seriously, couldn’t someone get married in this outfit?
I think this is become really pretty…
There’s something about stripes with dots… especially in navy! (and the espadrilles have little round perforations…)
I’m loving this one too… It all feels very easy to wear…
There was no way to resist this sweater and skirt – I didn’t even try…
These aren’t colors that you expect to find together, but that’s the beauty of building a wardrobe around a scarf – they did the creative part for us!
Simple, classic, and SUCH a pretty color… and yes, I would wear the Converse shoes with this… complete with the little hidden white gym socks!
This is maybe my favorite? I love the gentle femininity of the colors….
This scarf gives us permission to combine colors in ways we wouldn’t normally expect…
These colors are all so unexpected together, but work really well…
Just for reference purposes, here are the six scarves upon which these wardrobes are based:
Is your favorite shifting every month the way mine is? And have you started thinking differently about a color (or 2) watching these evolve? I have to admit that grey is beginning to really appeal to me!
love,
Janice

Yes, Janice. I like your grey capsule a lot. Grey is one of my neutrals, but I find it difficult to work grey into a pretty summer wardrobe. Light shades tend to be heathered and sporty. Any ideas for a grey based summer wardrobe? Also, I only wear long pants now, so would love to find those in a nice medium or light shade for summer.
So glad you have your sparkle back!

Check out Everlane's Wide-Leg Crop in Harbor Mist. It's a beautiful gray with maybe a hint of a lavender cast? I suspect it looks more gray in real life than on their site. It's a nice high rise, loose-leg, and 26.5" inseam that shows off narrow ankles. I'm petite and just bought the bone and I want all the colors. Nice, heavy, stretchy, twill, and only $68.

Thank you, Rebecca, for your great suggestion. Love those pants. But my ankles need to stay hidden, so I will keep checking Everlane to see if they bring out a longer version.

I've often thought that it is in this month with the introduction of the skirts that these capsules really start to diverge into their separate identities. I'm loving several of the skirts the floral, the spotted and the tan brocade skirts are all totally gorgeous. Great finds Janice :) Jazz

I love watching these unexpected combinations come together. There are lots of inspirations here! And I am totally in love with the Lanvin tween skirt!!

I would be so envious of that $500+ tweed skirt…except that I recently found a short pastel tweed skirt at a thrift store for a couple of dollars. Now I guess I just have to buy some Converse (and a pair ankle socks)!

Genius! Finding beautiful things in thrift stores is truly one of the pleasure of life… Congrats!

I just bought a pair of espadrilles from Diego's and I LOVE them! Can't wait for warmer weather to wear them. I resisted the "practical" colors and bought stripes that include both my neutral and accent colors… and they make me so happy!
February was a LONG month for me, too. Here's to a happy, healthy March!

Espadrilles are always in my closet and I have quite a selection now after +20 years of collecting. obviously I love them. I also really like the bohemian swishy skirts you picked for a couple of the groupings.

Would you consider re-visiting and expanding this wardrobe? https://www.theviviennefiles.com/2016/03/start-with-art-autumn-trees-maples-by.html For the past year, I've been living with most of my clothing packed up (long story), and something like this collection of colors, including the blue, is what I've wound up with as my can't-live-withouts. But I've regretted not having a few more colors, and on a closer look at the painting I see the green and chestnut brown that I'd like to have dashes of. Maybe brown leather shoes and a bag, and one green sweater or T? Even though I've more or less done it myself, I'd like to see what you'd put together, if you have the time.

As much as I love gray, the navy and red wardrobe that just got the polka dot skirt is my favorite so far. There is nothing in it that I wouldn't wear in a heartbeat. And I'm so ready for spring. Maybe if I buy some espadrilles the weather will cooperate! :)

The ivory, olive, and grey are my favorites so far. Each of them has something that really appeals to me! This is my favorite series that you do but I somehow always forget that it's coming. It's such a pleasant surprise every first of the month!

The navy is really attractive – I love the contrast and energy of the capsule so far. But the soft sophistication of the gray is lovely too. The brown is unexpectedly appealing – good work all around! – nancyo

I'm loving all and any post that includes Eileen Fisher clothing. I'd really love to see a "Build a Capsule Wardrobe in 12 Months" using only Eileen Fisher, That would be a perfect world.
