Sometimes I see a scarf, and my mind wanders, and my imagination takes off…
She’s Not Excited…
They’ve been getting together about twice a year – more or less – for decades. Since they finished college… And she’s starting to feel that they’re growing apart. (for example, they would have a very difficult time with her outfit that mixes brown and black leather accessories, while she finds it perfectly comfortable…)
Well, she feels like she’s growing. And they’re further away than they used to be, metaphorically speaking. She just doesn’t have the tolerance for a 3-hour conversation about skin-care. Or handbags. She wants to talk about things that are more serious…
She feels like her personal, quirky style is pretty well established, and that she doesn’t need to really dissect the in’s and out’s of every upcoming trend…
She still cares about these friends… sigh… But yes, she’s going to wear a down jacket with her dress just to be a bit rebellious…
She’s not sure what to do. An exercise in patience, and the truth of what love of friends means?
She will make it all about love – that will work…
love,
Janice

If she was living in New Zealand she would probably be much more interested in discussing the current election campaign which has the two main parties on the knife edge!!
Love the quirkiness of this wardrobe and our heroine's desire to speak of more meaty issues.

I love your stories.
That orange dress is gorgeous. Dresses are such a great opportunity for unusual colors, because as long as you have a neutral jacket/cardigan/topper (and who doesn't), you don't have to worry about it working with other pieces in your wardrobe.
And my daughter has informed me that I should wear dresses with that cut–fit and flared.

Perhaps she may find they are relieved not to talk about fashion, they continued it because she did such a good job at camouflaging her boredom that they thought it was HER passion! But, Janice. Wot? No jeans? Your lady's rebelelliousness goes way beyond the down coat!

She really loves her new boots and wanted to be sure that they were visible….

Love that she wore a down jacket to the pretentious dinner and rugged boots to the girly lunch. Maybe her independence will rub off on her friends!

It's so easy to lose sight of these possibilities – we've got so many rules (still?) about what "goes" and what doesn't. We're most of us in a position to be able to shake that up a little bit and lose neither our jobs nor our partners…

Janice

It's all about LOVE! Yes! This is the conclusion I am coming to again and again and again. I'll quote Jack Kornfield at you: "The fruits of well-being and the experience of joy, freedom, and love are available now, whatever your circumstance!" https://jackkornfield.com/happiness-now/
Love to you this morning, Janice! –Suzyn

Your stories and choices are so good. But, I still wait for your all-year-around wardrobe… continuation. Did you give up of that idea?
Best wishes,
Maja

I haven't given up, but I haven't made good progress either! It's turning out to be pretty difficult. But I'm going to chase down some ideas while I'm on vacation, so I might have something to offer by the 2nd week of October. Crossing fingers…
hugs,
Janice

Can I request that you make the process a bit simpler Janice as I struggled to follow along and lost interest. I know you weren't well when you posted the last instalment back in July and sensed that you were getting bogged down in the detail. Don't ruin your holiday by thinking you have to come up with something – wait until your back home and at work. Sharon, U.K.

Love the thoughts behind the story…lots to think about. As I move along in my life, I find I have different groups of friends. Some are from elementary school ( 63 years of friendship) and while we seem different, each of us is the essential same person as we were when we were 7 but each has grown and strengthened.
And really like this grouping and the colours and the combinations…different and interest making. I have welcomed black back and find it really adds a dimension I was missing.

Actually NOT wearing jeans is more rebellious than wearing them…look around when in a crowd….the ultimate "cloak of invisibility"!!!!

What an unexpected and fun color palette! Janice, will you consider expanding this wardrobe? I'd love to see a work wardrobe with these tones and this woman's focused style.

Oh for the knitters amongst us, the fabric of the pink sweater would be be similar to Debbie Bliss cashmerino! I will keep this one in mind.

What a great post and the color combinations are just super! How many times have I used a scarf as my inspiration for putting together an outfit? I really identify w/your flights of fancy here.
I must say that I am most partial to the "In Transit" girl, partly because I love the color combinations and partly because I'm at the point in my life where I feel as if I am constantly "in transit."

My favourite too – (even though I don't do dresses or skirts). It's the down jacket and boots that lift the outfits from something smart but predictable, to something with lots of character! Also love the colours scheme (like Deb above, i'm welcoming back black, in fact it never really went away despite my efforts)

This may be my favorite capsule. The colors are so vibrant. And her quote describes where I am: "She feels like her personal, quirky style is pretty well established, and that she doesn't need to really dissect the in's and out's of every upcoming trend…" I have started being bored by the trends.

Thanks for introducing me to the Karen Millen brand! The dresses are gorgeous and perfect for my body shape. Can't wait to add some pieces from her line.

Even though I don't wear (much) orange, I ordered the scarf because teal and black are staples of my cold-weather wardrobe. – nancyo
