Doesn’t this make you want to just sit somewhere and watch the world go by?
Someone driving up with friends for a spa weekend is using this color scheme to inspire her packing… (well, it inspires her entire wardrobe, not just one weekend!)
Since they’re driving, she can be super-casual and relaxed, but she still has her favorite leaf-motif jewelry – the painting strongly suggests that she’s a nature lover.
Once they’re at the spa, they’ll be living in their robes, but she’s going to need an outfit to get home in, and maybe something other than a robe in which to dine. Just because they put you in a robe doesn’t mean that you’re not allowed to get dressed!
It’s a tiny amount of stuff, but she has a few options for how to combine things, if for some reason they’re delayed on their trip. (or just if she changes her mind!)
Doesn’t the idea of just a day or two away with friends, being pampered, sound appealing?
love,
Janice

I love this color combination.
A spa weekend sounds fantastic…

Even though they are not my color family, these are pretty hues that work well together.

I wouldn't mind a little guidance toward items at Nordstroms–the site is so huge that I often don't know where to start.

The single best thing you can do on sites like that is use the search box – if you want a pair of flat sandals, for example, type in "flat sandals" and then sort them by price or filter by color. These sites have tools that help you winnow through things to get to what you really want. I, for example, will always go on and search for "Eileen Fisher Petite" and then sort by the lowest price first, to see what's on sale. And then I'll search for "pearls" and then sort starting with the newest, just to make sure nothing have arrived that I wanted to see. I can easily do a post about things that I like, but I don't know that this would be helpful for anybody but my husband, when he buys me gifts!
Trust your instincts – you know what you like. If it doesn't catch your eye immediately, MOVE ON!
hugs,
Janice

You have found some great practical items in that very elusive rich red, particularly the dress. I am doing my best to follow "Vivienne's" rules as best I can when I am shopping for clothes etc and fabric both online and in the store. The important part for me is focusing on only the very perfect item and doing my best not to be a magpie.

Dear Janice,
Beautiful assembly of clothing and accessories. I, in no means, mean this to be critical, but I believe you meant to type "Le" instead of "the" in the title of Denis' painting. In case someone is searching for that painting. Just shows your bilingual brain at work. :-) Thank you for all you do and have a wonderful weekend and start of summer.

Mom, you are SO right – I just fixed it!
You should hear the "Franglais" that we speak chez nous… it's appalling!

Janice

A spa weekend! How luxurious! This wardrobe looks perfect for the occasion. I would never wear shorts that short though. I will be 59 in July and have not worn short shorts in years. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. LOL! I love the beige flowy top! Reminds me of my teen years. Have a great Memorial Weekend everyone! I am looking forward to my 3 days off!

I thought of how short the shorts are, but I figured what the heck – there are longer shorts also available at L.L.Bean. Sometimes I just like to mix it up (but I wouldn't probably wear them either…)
have a wonderful weekend,

Janice

I'd like to see a survey on how many women 50+ or 60+ wear shorts (outside of the gym). I haven't worn shorts for years and I rarely see them on older women. Skirts are generally more flattering and cooler in hot weather.

BTW, Eileen Fisher is having a sale with an extra 15% off sale items– the slouchy pants are in the sale :)

Love this capsule!! Earthy, but not boring.

Janice, thank you so much! This is just perfect and yes, I will wear the shorts. I don't have much red in my wardrobe, I shy away because I think it draws attention to my rosacea but perhaps I should re-consider. That particular shade is lovely and could be considered a neutral, I think. I hope Nordstrom ships to Canada.
Love your great advice, as always. You put items together in ways I hadn't thought of and each of your posts never fails to inspire.
