I haven’t done Chic Sightings for a while because… well… I haven’t seen much! But last week I was walking home past the Art Institute of Chicago (which I do frequently, since it’s 3 blocks from home!), and I saw both of these women. It was one of those days that started with a cool-ish morning, building to a warmer afternoon, and they both looked lovely, and perfect for the day.Is it the museum that attracts the simple, chic, eye-catching woman?
It feels like the “brunette version, blonde version” of wearing white trousers in the city…love,

3 blocks from the Art Institute, eh? I need to re-think parts of my life…

Yep, in a high-rise building with a view of the lake. I do NOT believe, in my wildest dreams, that I could have hoped to live this way. I am, no doubt about it, the luckiest woman who has ever lived….

Janice,
My best friend used to have a simple corner studio apartment with windows all the way around on the 30somethingth floor of a high rise just off of Michigan Ave. The windows looked out over a north-facing view towards the Hancock building and the lake, maybe 10 blocks away from the Art Institute (you could definitely walk). It was my favorite place to visit because even sitting in her apartment just chatting was a feast for the eyes as you looked out the windows. In fact, sometimes when I wasn't there, she would tell me what was going on outside, like… "oh there's a marriage proposal on a prop plane." "I wonder what's going on at Navy Pier." "Ooooo lightning over the lake" etc. While she has since moved from that apartment (bah! rent increases!), and I obviously still love to visit her, it's just not quite the same. *sigh* In other words, I understand your enchantment with the lifestyle.

Hi, white jeans in the fall are a great look I think. We are breaking the old rule of no white after labour day, but who cares?

I still hear my mother's disapproval whenever I think of wearing white pants (or white shoes) after Labor Day–but must admit these outfits do look very chic. I also admit that, having very recently moved to city living and walking distance of museums and galleries, I'd never want to go back to the suburbs!

Love wearing white pants all year long now! These are fun and I would love to wear something like this at the Art Institute and meet you for lunch! Just dreaming!

I am loving white jeans…need to buy a new pair as they are so versatile. I love how you've styled these.
Your proximity to the galleries and museum must make it easy to keep up on the exhibits…do they have a cafe?
I enjoy the cafe at the Vancouver Art Gallery…The Getty north of LA has a great place to dine.
In Paris some of the best lunches I ate were in the Museums.

Yes, a cafe and a members dining room, if I remember correctly.

Brunette/blonde version? Very true. I would also say cool and warm palette. The beige and white works beautifully for those of us w/warm skin tones. I love how you've put this together. You are probably already aware that Tory Burch has opened a beautiful boutique on the rue St. Honoré (I think) in Paris. French chic meets American preppy.
Cheers, M-T
