Now, the fun starts! A couple of accent color tops and another scarf will bring each capsule wardrobe to life and give you many more options.
Don’t be terribly fanatic about matching up your accent colors, because you won’t be wearing these pieces together; just make sure that you’re choosing items that convey your preferences and your personal statement… That’s what this is all about – showing yourself to the world exactly as you wish to be seen.

Okay Bookbutterfly, you beat me to it. :) and I am in the States right now.
And Janice, I know I sound like a broken record, but this series is genius!

Love this…planning on reconstructing my closet using this guide. I suppose I could make my own color wheel, with black, gray at the bottom and coral, white, and ???
Jean Shaw says
but of course!
that to me is the essence of Janice's genius–it's not necessarily about matching the colors, it's about the underlying rationale…

With coral you could go complementary i.e. orange, apricot, lemon yellow (very fashionabe this year) or similarish i.e. tan brown or contrasting i.e. turquoise, mid purple or bright mauve, grass green. Black, white and gray go with pretty much anything, so I'd say follow your desires…
Sheena Clevenger says
I LOVE coral with blue – royal or navy would be gorgeous!
My sister wears coral and yellow and it is beautiful as well.

These are luscious!
Having the six wardrobes side-by-side really helps me to see how the choice of accent colors affects the personality of a wardrobe. And such brilliant choices of accent colors! I have a chocolate-and-kkaki wardrobe and I would never have chosen butter yellow and sky blue as accents — but now I think I must.

This is so much fun! My fantasy wardrobe (the gray/navy combo) was looking a little dreary, but when I added the pink and the purple tops — WOW!! I must confess, with each day, this is a little less fantasy, a little more shopping plan. :)
Jean Shaw says
fun stuff, Janice; thanks for your eagle eye!

I've kinda developed the beginnings of this beautiful graphic black and white capsule wardrobe over the past several months for "dressing up for clinic" as opposed to working in jeans and a t-shirt in the lab every day. And, this series is pretty brilliant for me in figuring out how to develop it just a bit more so that it works all the time. I need to pick some bright accent colors that I love, (because while the blue is great, the red just isn't for me sadly) to figure out what comes next. And this is perfect for figuring that out!
(As a side note, along this line there was a beautiful start with art Janice did a little while ago comparing Mondrian to something else with a bit more softer lines and curves, I can't remember who it was just now, and I feel like all of those outfits would fit RIGHT IN with the black and red and blue outfits here.)

Absolutely lovely, Janice! Thanks for introducing me to so many shopping choices I had no idea existed.
Monica Bailey says
I absolutely agree! Janice, you've introduced me to some wonderful new shopping sites, which is perfect for someone like me who prefers Internet shopping over brick-and-mortar.
eclair says
Agree! This series has broadened my perspectives with color combining, and helped me to plan an even more refined packing capsule. These particular color combinations allow me to shop my closet and gain fresh new looks I have'my previously been aware of. This is one of my most favorite series. It is almost time for a book.

So toy have any advice for adding more color and patterns other than in a scarf?
Alana in Canada says
This is actually Step 7.

Janice, I've just discovered your blog and you have inspired me to rehaul my wardrobe. Question for you: should the scarf in this step contain both of the accent colors?
Janice Riggs says
It's helpful if the scarf contains both of the accent colors, because then you only need to have one scarf to "pull in" either of the accent colors when you wear that garment. But if you can only find scarves with a single accent color, it won't be the end of the world!
thanks for being here,
Janice
Lisa says
Reading though this series finally helped me understand a capsule wardrobe and how to create one. I do have one question… Do your two accent colors have to go together? (complimentary or analogous) Will you ever wear them together in the same outfit?
Janice says
Yes, and yes. You don’t HAVE to have them go together – there aren’t rules here! – but if they go together your options will increase tremendously!
hugs,
Janice
