It’s always difficult to know what shoes to wear with a dress like this. While metallic sandals would always be an appropriate choice, the coat in this ensemble makes it possible to wear open, ornamented black sandals. Packing a black clutch and black sandals is handy, because you can then wear them if you want to dress up the other dress, or the skirt.

Who makes the skirt in the last picture?

Dear Nadine,

Not only do I love the way your pictured items coordinate, your explanations help me think through my choices. When I first started reading your blog, I paid attention to the pictures that had colors I like. Now I am able to substitute colors in my mind, so I am going back over old entries that I passed over without much thought. The packing groupings are all amazing.

Gorgeous color combo!

This collection and color combination makes me swoon. I like bright colors in my old age (almost 60), but muted colors with neutrals are perfect for an elegant occasion. Thank you!

Lovely combo – how long does an event take, though? This would easily last me a week…! :)

I wanted to err on the side of generosity (that could be the motto of my life!). But if this were for a wedding, you'd be well covered – literally – for a rehearsal, the wedding itself, and another day or two in town for sightseeing and unwinding.
Little Miss Know-it-all says
Yes, absolutely – you could easily manage two weeks with this capsule, one or two repeats and a little overnight washing :)

Most individuals probably look better with their arms covered; that's why I appreciate this coat! In England, there seem to be more options with sleeves for dresses.

I have plantar fasciitis…..here's your challenge! What would a 54 yr. old pull together for a nice looking wardrobe when one needs to wear supportive athletic shoes??? Help! I am sure I am not the only one! Added bonus points, I am a 5'10" red head who wears a size 11 shoe : ) No magenta please :-/

I can't quite get my head around a coat with sandals…I guess the coat is more a jacket than outerwear?
Janice Riggs says
Yep – it's intended as a light over-layer, not a true coat. Although if you want to see sandals and heavy winter coats, just drop by Chicago any evening in the winter, and you'll see lots of silliness.

While most women may look better with their arms covered, I think it is shame if they never wear sleeveless for comfort and ease. I'm clearly not a woman who worries about every little body detail being perfect. Live a little! Enjoy yourself!

I found your website a week or so ago while searching out capsule wardrobes and how best to build one. I've settled on a core wardrobe with just these colors. Very nice post to confirm my color decisions especially when my tendency is to waive and change color loves often.

My mother at age 80 is not happy showing her arms anymore. I have suggested that she wears more shrugs. A little silver shrug with silver sandals? Do you think that is a doable option?
