Dear Janice, Every time I think I have nailed it (i.e. decided on the best look for me from all your wonderful ideas, you come up with another totally different, but equally delightful colour combination that I absolutely love! Love this combination of black with brown and gold. It looks so classy! Yet I am a blue eyed, ash brown haired woman, now going grey. My skin tone works best with blues, greys, whites. These never seem to look as elegant as do the more neutral combinations of neutral with neutral such as black with cream and brown for example. How do I stop myself gettin sidetracked by what delights my eyes, when I know deep down that the blues are really "my colour area"? Jen

I so agree with you, Anon. at 8:13! I also had ash brown hair, hazel eyes and skin tones which look best with blues, mauves, pinks. I wish I had planned ahead a couple of years before I stopped coloring my hair. It's the best thing I ever did, time and money-wise, but camel/tan/beige sweaters, jackets, etc. all had to be given away, not to mention black, at least for the top half! Take comfort in knowing that no one can rock lavenders, rose, cool blues and grays like a gray-haired elegant woman.
Oh, me, too! I have the same coloring and I know what looks good on me. But sometimes I get so tempted by colors that are outside my routine. I struggle with the excitement of a new color or combination, but also wanting to make my wardrobe truly functional and lasting.

Another ash brown, hazel-eyed, fair-skinned old girl with a closet full of browns and camels that look horrid on me now! My hair has turned "Helen Mirren gray"! I'm moving to navy, grey and icy colors. I hope that Janice will dedicate a page to those of us who can't wear warm colors well anymore. This is actually the perfect time for me to buy the investment pieces that I've longed for. I don't think my hair will change much more now! I also have a pile of yellow gold jewelry that must be handed down to daughter/daughters-in-law or sold.

Another ash brow hair going gray.. now I'm a salt and pepper , think, Jamie Lee Curtis but with brown sort of greenish eyes. STop colouring my hair was one of my life best decisions but I have the same problems my wardrobe is full of camel, brown… I'm in the transition stage now but I bit unsure about best colours.. Last summer I keep on black and white cominations and it look great but I think was because I have a suntan … Wouldn't be nice if Janice put togueter a serier for gray looking great ladies of a certain age?
By the way Janice I'm absolutely besoted with yor blog… I have even printed the looks I like and put them in folders according to seasons !!!!

Very inspiring post! I particularly like the belted tweed jacket and skirt look. I think scarves can be a little frightening to people because the mix of colors in them can seem at odds with the colors of their wardrobe. For example, a mostly cool color scarf with touches of bright orange. You do an excellent job of showing how to combine warm and cool colors using the scarf as the basis. I would love to see more of these posts.

Lovely combinations here, I adore black and brown together but the black and golds are also quite nice here.
This is incredible. Not only is the colour combination very appealing to me, each item is exactly what I would choose. This is where self control becomes paramount. Keep doing this though because it helps just to pretend.

Hi all you silver fox types who look best in grays, navies and mauve. As a person with brown hair, hazel eyes and golden skin, I knew I didn't look best when I gave in to my cravings for cool colors.
