It is indeed very warm in Paris during the summer. And when you’re out hiking about all day looking at the beauties that Paris has to offer, you want to stay cool. And of course there’s always that pressure that goes along with the fact that you’re in PARIS; you want to look your very best – up to date and stylish. But SERIOUSLY…
This is the time of year when Vivienne’s staff spends quite a bit of time calling doctors to the hotel, or occasionally sending someone off in an ambulance to this hospital, because of shoe-related injuries. No kidding. Once a day, at least, right now, they’ll have some absolute BIMBO IDIOT stagger into the lobby with a broken heel or torn straps, as well as broken bones and torn ligaments. Not particularly elegant.
The inability to walk gracefully in a pair of shoes automatically robs the shoe of any pretension it might have had to style.
And as someone who has had to evacuate an office building due to a bomb threat (no time to change shoes or even grab our handbags), and walk down FORTY TWO flights of stairs… Let’s just say that I will never again wear shoes in which I can’t walk at least a mile. At least outside of my apartment!

So true! Has anyone else noticed how the so called fashionable shoes have gotten up to ridiculous heights? They almost look like cartoon shoes with the size of the platforms and heel heights. The older I get, the harder it is to walk in a very high heel and I bypass these looks when shopping for shoes.

Agreed! And despite all of the French Women myths, you really don't see les Parisiennes tottering around on monster heels. They're mostly wearing sensible shoes they can walk in.

Those navy sandals would look great with linen trousers – I'd love a pair.

While in Paris last October, I wore a pair of 2 1/2" Tsubo Mary Janes that have always been comfortable, no matter how long I wear them for.
But one rainy night, I wore them out to dinner in le Marais. On the way home, my heel got stuck on a groove in the cobblestone street and I fell hard; I really hurt my leg, taking home a souvenir bruise about the size of a grapefruit below my knee -so how someone could trot around Paris in 4" or 5" stilettos is beyond me. Next time, it's flats all the way!

What would Vivienne say to the Kardashian clan? I'd love to sit in a corner and listen to her go off on their sartorial choices.

What brand are these? Very nice!

I can't FIND them again!!! But they could be Clark's, Old Navy, or Debenham's. I've also seen cool sandals which would be easy walkers in the Travelsmith catalog.

Agreed! That top shoe is just ghastly. I cannot wait for the demise of what I call the stripper shoe. A bit of platform is fine, but I'm struggling to find suitable shoes for work. While the sandals are practical, they are not pretty to my eye.
